What does everyone enjoy right after a great cup of coffee? A great environment to drink it in. If you’re looking for a good cafe to call home, I’m here to help. While I have sipped and sat in a lot of coffee houses, these three cafes in Baltimore are the ones I actually crave.
Dovecote Cafe is…my…JAM. Beautifully placed in Reservoir Hill, a simple drive by will pull you in. This cafe carries a great menu with an amazing coffee selection. If that doesn’t bring you back (which it will), the energy you feel from the owners who treat you like family, even if its your first visit will. If that doesn’t bring you back, the energy of all of the good people that come through there will. If that doesn’t bring you back (tired yet?), the ever changing beautiful art that is created by local artist to decorate the environment will. If that doesn’t bring you back the initiative that this cafe has taken that you not only feel as a patron, but you can easily find in their actions, “CommUNITY first, cafe second” most certainly will. The events that this cafe hold to bring the community together are innovative and by far the most selfless I’ve ever seen of any restaurant. With all of that packed in one beautiful place, it makes the coffee taste just that much better.
Order & Chaos Coffee
I love practically anything that has a ingenious story behind it, and that Order & Chaos does. Plainit, the advertising agency that birthed Order & Chaos moved to Federal Hill which brought some positive changes for its staff along with it ( I hear one of those changes was a beer fridge. I wonder if they stock Natty Boh in it if so). What is now Order & Chaos could have just been a coffee area in the Planit office to help keep all of those great marketing minds awake, but instead, the company chose to share its joy with the community. I for one am thankful that they did. This coffeehouse boasts a clean fun setting that has clearly taken its coffee research seriously (but not so seriously that you feel you need a java resource manual to order). The laid back habitat and its baristas promotes no sweat if you don’t know “the lingo”. The cafe has two sections of seating. My preference is the in the back for its spaciousness. My last visit there I saw that they had ‘Bulletproof coffee’ on the menu. A coffee favored by keto dieters. Keto fan or not, that level of forward thinking in a coffee shop warrants a visit just to see what else it has to offer. Get your cute O&X cup and wave to the staff of Planit behind the partially exposed glass wall to thank them for their tasty innovation – they will wave back.
This Baltimore Cafe’ makes the list because it caters to all of my moods and senses. I go for the coffee, my husband joins me for the tea and both makes the place smell amazing. I’ve never had a bad dish here and on celebratory days (I think any day is worth a celebration by the way) the champagne mimosa will make you want to stay forever. The art on the wall appeals to the eye and the manners and good timeliness of the staff invites you back every time. If you can catch an open mic night or live performance here, I would recommend it highly. You can go cozy up with your laptop alone and work till your heart is content, or solemnize a moment in your life with a few friends and family. This environment is great for either and all in between.
Love these coffee houses or have more to recommend, let me know here. I would love to meet you at one to discuss your real estate needs. Talk to you soon!
