Last week the hubs and I landed in Hampden at the cutest little spot – The Bluebird Cocktail Room . We weren’t sure what to expect we were just hungry and started date night at an hour that most restaurants in our area were already closed. I was in the mood for a Bygone vibe, he was in the mood for a quick burger and a good drink. Come to find out, The Bluebird is a very happy medium.
This literary themed bar gives a complete mood and sticks to its theme through and through. From the entrance door that gives a birdcage like feel that leads to the swings on the porch that makes for the perfect conversation area you’ve had a few of the well crafted cocktails.
The Vibe:
Think swanky jazzy joint in an era where folks dressed in their finest everywhere they went. Yet the this bar does not hold you nor your attire to that standard. The crystal chandeliers against the all navy colored room creates the mood they want to give. You can sit at the bar, have a seat on the yellow velvet bench with a private table, or have a seat at one of the communal tables. No matter where you sit you will have an eye full of calming yet rich aesthetic. You’re surrounded by old, good books. The first one that I randomly laid my hand on was a Shakespeare book. The Bluebird Cocktail Room was perfect for a date night and equally as great when I went back to simply catch up with my cousin. This place KNOWS who they are and they execute to perfection. Even the menu is typed and bounded as a 8 page book with each drink having its own chapter. This place is truly poetic guys.
The Food & Drinks:
The food that I can vouch for is the pesto spaghetti and the lamb meatballs. Everything was well seasoned and cooked. My husband and I shared the dishes so I feel the portions were generous. (Disclaimer: Ive been told I eat like a bird…so take my idea of sharable portions lightly I guess). The drinks here are WELL thought out down to the glasses the come in which were purposely mad and hand etched for The Bluebirds drinks. The cocktails menu states that it is inspired by the owners two true loves; great literate and botany. Therefore there is poetry weave throughout the menu itself via the drink names. I had the Vain Desires and the Dadalien – both tasted as beautiful as they looked and left nothing to be desired.
Bonus: If you share the Bluebirds love for great literature, you’ll be happy to know that they generally have amazing books on the swing set level that are FREE. Grab your mate or friends…hell call me, Ill gladly meet you there lol, just go, try it and tell me your thoughts!
